Why did you return the treasure

One night, a person was passing through a deserted mountainous area in his car. While turning on the road, the car’s tire hit something with great force, causing the car to swerve, but he managed to regain control. He stopped the car and got out to investigate and remove the obstruction from the road.

From a distance, he noticed a glimmer. As he approached, he discovered a large chest—a beautifully crafted wooden box with its lid open—filled with shimmering jewels, some of which were even scattered on the road. Intrigued, he looked inside and found it to be filled with precious gems.

Surveying the surroundings, he saw no signs of any population or any presence of even a single person. The place seemed so deserted that it started to feel strange and mysterious to him. With determination, he gathered the scattered jewels and brought his car back to that spot to transport them. However, the chest was too large and heavy for him to carry alone, so he emptied it, placed it in the car, filled it with the gems, and finally moved the car. Eventually, he brought the jewels to his home and secured the chest in a locked room.

He realized that such a fortune couldn’t belong to someone of low position or an ordinary person. Only a few individuals in the country could possess such wealth. Without revealing anything to anyone, he pondered over the identity of the owner of this treasure. He was certain that this wealth could only belong to a king or noble. In the country, only a few of influential people matched that description. Without confiding in anyone, he became deeply involved in uncovering the owner of this wealth. In the end, he discovered that none of those individuals were the rightful owner.

Now, another challenge arose. After a considerable amount of time, he made another discreet attempt and eventually found a clue. Far away, there was a king of a very large kingdom who had hidden his secret treasure amidst those deserted mountains. While transporting it or bringing it back, the chest must have been dropped on that path, and nobody even noticed it.

After making sure of his findings, he went to the court of the king and inquired about his lost treasure. Until then, the king himself had no idea of its disappearance. When the king saw his treasury, it was evident that the chest was indeed missing.

After confirming the chest’s identity, he handed it over to the king. Intrigued, the king asked him why he returned the treasure when he neither knew nor saw anyone involved.

He replied that Allah had deemed him worthy and granted him great capabilities. He desired to earn money through his abilities but did not wish to acquire wealth that did not rightfully belong to him, nor did he want to take advantage of someone’s mistake or naivety. Moreover, answering to the question that if he was being observed there or not, he wanted to reply that there was indeed someone observing him, and that person was fully focused on what he was doing, and that person was none other than himself.
